Dungarvan CBS edge out Blackwater in epic encounter

Dungarvan CBS advanced to the quarter finals of the Rice Cup with a thrilling victory over Blackwater Community School at Dungarvan last Thursday. Dungarvan CBS had already beaten Kilkenny CBS, Midleton CBS and Youghal Community School and yet risked going out of the competition on scoring difference if they had lost to Blackwater. Dungarvan dictated the pace in this game and led by 1-2 to 0-0 after seven minutes. CBS led by 1-5 to 1-2 at half time. Blackwater hit Dungarvan hard with two goals midway through the second half but a string of points in the last six minutes gave Dungarvan CBS a well deserved victory and left them unbeaten in this section of the Rice Cup. The Rice Cup team has trained very hard since last September under a Kilkenny man Danny Doran. The Dungarvan CBS success also owes much to the work done at club level. Dungarvan CBS has defeated both De La Salle and Kilkenny CBS in 2009. Both of these colleges contested the All Ireland Colleges A final two years ago. The performances of Dungarvan CBS are are all the more notable considering the fact that many of these schools have bigger numbers to pick from.
